Baseball Recap: Onaga Picks Up Second Consecutive Win

Onaga came out on top against Valley Heights on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Buffaloes never let the Mustangs get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jackson Kolterman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Onaga is 9-1 when Kolterman posts two or more runs, but 4-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Magnett, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Xavier Berges, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Onaga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Onaga and bumps their season record up to 13-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Valley Heights, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Coming up, Onaga will head out on the road to challenge Wabaunsee at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Valley Heights, they will venture away from home to take on Republic County on Tuesday. The Mustangs are facing the Buffaloes at the right time seeing as the Buffaloes are stuck on a 16-game losing streak.
