Preview: Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs vs. Heritage Christian Eagles
Shawnee Mission Christian is 9-1 against Heritage Christian since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Shawnee Mission Christian Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Heritage Christian Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Shawnee Mission Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Friday.
Last Friday, Shawnee Mission Christian came up short against Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool and fell 36-28. Shawnee Mission Christian has not had much luck with Northeast Kansas Nighthawks HomeSchool recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Shawnee Mission Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jeydan Umberger, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 rebounds, and Isabella Anderson who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That's the first time this season that Umberger scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Emily Kleczka, who scored a point along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Heritage Christian suffered a tough 55-29 loss at the hands of Cornerstone Family on Friday.
Shawnee Mission Christian has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Heritage Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Shawnee Mission Christian beat Heritage Christian 37-29 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Does Shawnee Mission Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Heritage Christian turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
