Football Recap: Clairton Skates Past Leechburg with Ease

Clairton put their dominant defense on display in the team's sixth consecutive shutout on Friday. They blew past the Leechburg Blue Devils 48-0. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won six games by 43 points or more so far this season.

Clairton had a senior duo take command as Deon Lovelace-Pompey rushed for 151 yards and one touchdown on only five carries and Jeff Thompson threw for 311 yards and four TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes. Lovelace-Pompey's longest rush was for an incredible 92 yards. 103 of Thompson's passing yards were hauled in by Michael Ruffin, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Clairton's run defense was locked in: Leechburg could only muster 2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Brandon Murphy Jr for the heroic effort on defense: he. That's the most yards per carry they've posted since back in October of 2024.

Clairton didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Murphy Jr and Taris Wooding. Another thorn in Leechburg's side was Darren Pinson, who made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Clairton's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 0.0 points on average over those games. As for Leechburg, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-2.

Clairton wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 66-0 victory against Riverview on the 18th. As for Leechburg, they have also already played their next matchup, a 48-41 win against Brentwood on the 17th.
