Preview: Lake Nona Lions vs. Lake Howell Silver Hawks
Lake Nona has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Lake Howell Silver Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lake Nona lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Thursday was a bit more commanding. Their rough 60-37 loss to Master's Academy might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Lake Nona can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Master's Academy is ranked 209th).
Despite the loss, Lake Nona saw an underclassman step up: Nadeen Elgamal scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elgamal has scored all season. Aspen Wooten was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Meanwhile, Lake Howell's seven-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They put the hurt on Altamonte Christian with a sharp 49-26 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Lake Howell has posted since December 12, 2023.
Lake Nona bumped their record down to 2-9 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.9 points per game. As for Lake Howell, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8.
Lake Nona took a serious blow against Lake Howell when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 53-15. Can Lake Nona avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
