Softball Game Preview: Diego Rivera Huskies vs. Jefferson Democrats

The Diego Rivera Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Jefferson Democrats at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Diego Rivera knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Jefferson likes a good challenge.

Diego Rivera's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over Manual Arts. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Toilers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Jefferson fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Santee on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 9-8.

Valerie Echevarria was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 7.2 innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Echevarria was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Brenda Hernandez led a balanced group of hitters, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Melanie Ramirez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run.

Diego Rivera's victory bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Jefferson, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Everything went Diego Rivera's way against Jefferson when the teams last played back in March, as Diego Rivera made off with a 20-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Huskies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
