Soccer Game Preview: Riverwood vs. Lassiter

Riverwood hasn't had much luck against Lassiter recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Raiders will look to defend their home pitch against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lassiter will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Riverwood extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Raiders never let Sequoyah get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. Given Riverwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Sequoyah are ranked 162nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Kennesaw Mountain kept up with Lassiter until halftime on Tuesday, but afterwards: not so much. The Trojans put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 6-0 victory. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Lassiter's offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Lassiter pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 42 goals over those seven games. As for Riverwood, their win bumped their record up to 13-4.

Riverwood might still be hurting after the 5-0 loss they got from Lassiter in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
