Downingtown East faced Bishop Shanahan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Cougars took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Downingtown East started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 17-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-21.

Molly Drake paced Downingtown East's offense, picking up 17 kills. Drake got some help from Paige Vanemon and her 16 assists. Marisa Guan controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Downingtown East's loss dropped their record down to 20-5-4. As for Bishop Shanahan, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-2-1.

Downingtown East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop Shanahan, they will challenge Unionville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
