Basketball Game Preview: Walsingham Academy Trojans vs. Peninsula Catholic Knights

Walsingham Academy hasn't had much luck against Peninsula Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Walsingham Academy Trojans just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Peninsula Catholic Knights at 7:00 p.m.

Walsingham Academy is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game on Tuesday. They were dealt an 80-41 defeat at the hands of Steward. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while the Spartans are ranked 51st).

Meanwhile, Peninsula Catholic had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.1 points) and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They strolled past the Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 73-58.

Peninsula Catholic is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points per game. As for Walsingham Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-13.

Walsingham Academy was taken down by Peninsula Catholic 77-24 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Thankfully for Walsingham Academy, Malcolm Velmar (who went 9 of 15 en route to 22 points and six assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
