Softball Game Preview: Bucksport Golden Bucks vs. Washington Academy Raiders

For the second straight game, Bucksport will face off against Washington Academy. The Golden Bucks will head out to challenge the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bucksport 0.6, Washington Academy 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Bucksport had been on a three-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Washington Academy put an end to it on Thursday. The Golden Bucks fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 2-1. The matchup marked the Golden Bucks' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Natalie Simpson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Bucksport saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addison Harvey, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

With the victory, Washington Academy broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-4. As for Bucksport, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 13-1.

Bucksport's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Golden Bucks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game.
