Softball Recap: Westville Tigers vs. Oakwood Comets
Westville had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 23-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the Oakwood Comets by a score of 7-6. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Westville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Kiesel, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. Laney Cook was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
As for Oakwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.
On Oakwood's side, Irene Rangel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Bradford, who fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-3. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
Westville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Tri-City on the 10th. As for Oakwood, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-3 win against Georgetown-Ridge Farm on the 12th.
