The Flagstaff Eagles will head out to challenge the Goldwater Bulldogs at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Flagstaff is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.
Flagstaff's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over Estrella Foothills. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Mia Garcia was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Garcia was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Flagstaff got a massive performance out of Mayla Speer, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sophia Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Flagstaff kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Estrella Foothills didn't got any hits.
Meanwhile, Goldwater earned a 10-7 win over Moon Valley on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.
Like Flagstaff, Goldwater also got a great game from a two-way player: Micaela De La Torre. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. De La Torre has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Goldwater let Ata-Ashur Oraha and Avrie White run wild. Oraha went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while White went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Oraha continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. London Farmer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Flagstaff's record now sits at 16-9-1. As for Goldwater, their record is now 6-11.
Goldwater's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Flagstaff has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Goldwater, though, as they've been averaging 11.1 hits. Given Flagstaff's sizable advantage in that area, the Bulldogs will need to find a way to close that gap.
