Softball Recap: 12 Straight Home Wins for Avon Grove

Avon Grove had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the East Vikings a 3-0 shutout. This was a revenge game for the Red Devils: when they faced off against the Vikings back in April, they had to take a 5-4 loss.

The result came thanks to Elle Burns's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Elle Morris, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Gabby Beltran was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Avon Grove pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for East, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-7.

Looking ahead, Avon Grove will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Downingtown West at 4:30 p.m. The Red Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Whippets have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for East, they will take on Henderson at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Vikings are facing the Warriors at the right time seeing as the Warriors are stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
