Basketball Game Preview: Downingtown West Whippets vs. Central York Panthers

The Downingtown West Whippets and the Central York Panthers will round out the year against one another at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Downingtown West took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They came out on top against Mount Pleasant by a score of 51-38. The win was all the more spectacular given the Whippets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 159th in Pennsylvania, while the Green Knights are ranked eighth in Delaware).

Meanwhile, Central York put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Neumann-Goretti with a 72-66 victory. The 72-point effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Downingtown West's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.0 points per game. As for Central York, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.

Downingtown West came up short against Central York in their previous matchup back in January, falling 69-64. Can Downingtown West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
