Mission Bay extended their winning streak to ten on Friday, bumping them up to 10-0. They claimed a resounding 49-14 victory over the Hoover Cardinals. The Buccaneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by 28 points or more this season.
Trey Arnold was his usual excellent self, throwing for 390 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 72.3% of his passes. He has been hot recently, having posted four or more passing touchdowns the last four times he's played.
Mission Bay didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Hoover to a completion percentage of just 47.6%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Mason Morgan and Jack Barrett, who each logged one passes deflected. Given Arnold's standout performance, it's clear Hoover's secondary just wasn't on the same level.
Mission Bay's defense didn't let Hezekiah Manuel, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece.
As for Hoover, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 639th, while Mission Bay is ranked 150th).
Despite the loss, Hoover saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Manuel rushed for 71 yards and a pair of TDs on only six carries, and also threw for 215 yards on ten of 21 attempts. Manuel also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Cardinals are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 2-5 otherwise. A healthy portion of Manuel's aerial production (87 yards to be exact) went to Rahni Grant Jr..
As of now, neither Mission Bay nor Hoover have any future games scheduled.
