MaxPreps California Top 25 high school football rankings: Blowouts, close calls dominate playoffs

Mission Viejo and Folsom survive quarterfinal scares, top four teams average 61 points per game.

If you attended a CIF quarterfinal section football game Friday or Sunday of Top 25 teams, there's a good bet you saw either a blowout or something special.
The top four teams in the rankings won by a combined score of 245-44.
Much of the remainder of the ranked teams pulled out some humdingers, including No. 5 Mission Viejo (38-35 over Servite), No. 6 Folsom (45-42 over Edison), No. 10 Grace Brethren (33-31 over Lawndale) and No. 16 Camarillo (28-27 over Downey).
Probably the most startling lopsided score was No. 4 Centennial absolutely rolling previous No. 13 JSerra Catholic 56-0 in Southern Section Division 1 play. This week's semifinal games in the same division promise to be pretty epic as No. 1 Mater Dei plays at Mission Viejo in a battle of 11-0 teams and Centennial hosts No. 2 St. John Bosco, which also won by a surprisingly easy 63-7 count over previous No. 11 Calabasas.
Three teams exited the rankings with season-ending defeats: JSerra Catholic, Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) and Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley). They were replaced No. 23 Buchanan (Clovis), No. 24 Liberty (Brentwood) and No. 25 Culver City.
