The Washington Rams will head out to face off against the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Washington took a 18-run loss the last time they faced off against Sierra Linda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rams narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 12-10.
Meanwhile, La Joya Community came tearing into Thursday's contest with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Aztecs. The Fighting Lobos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by 14 runs or more this season.
Isabel Soares was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Soares was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Anaya Romero was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hayley Melendrez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
La Joya Community always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Copper Canyon only posted an OBP of .350.
Washington has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for La Joya Community, they pushed their record up to 14-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
Washington beat La Joya Community 7-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2018. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Fighting Lobos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
