Softball Recap: Blacksburg Gets the Win

Blacksburg won the last time they faced William Byrd and things went their way on Thursday too. The Bruins came out on top against the Terriers by a score of 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bruins.

Clara McMahon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Blacksburg saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katie Jones, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Madelyn Williams was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Blacksburg's record now sits at 7-8. As for William Byrd, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blacksburg will welcome Pulaski County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.5 runs per game on average), something the Bruins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for William Byrd, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Fleming at 5:30 p.m.
