Basketball Game Preview: Auburndale Apaches vs. Athens Bluejays

Auburndale is 8-1 against Athens since December of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Auburndale Apaches will host the Athens Bluejays at 7:15 p.m. Auburndale is coming into the game hot, having won their last 13 games.

Auburndale is headed into the contest having just posted their biggest win since January 3rd on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 60-34 margin over Loyal.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Athens). They strolled past Thorp with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 71-55.

Auburndale pushed their record up to 18-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points over those games. As for Athens, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-14 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Auburndale against Athens when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-32 win. Will Auburndale repeat their success, or does Athens have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
