Basketball Recap: Community Christian Continues Home Dominance on Monday

Community Christian was handed a heart-breaking three-point defeat in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Gramercy Christian on Monday. The Community Christian Cyclones took their game with ease, bagging an 85-42 victory over the Gramercy Christian Warriors. The Cyclones have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 25 points or more this season.

Community Christian was led to victory by Jared Kovach and Evan Gattis. Kovach dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten assists, while Gattis shot 5-for-9 from long range and almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine assists. Kovach continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Pierce Stone, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Community Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 28 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Riley Kincer, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Kincer is becoming a predictor of Gramercy Christian's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 2-1 (and 8-13 when he doesn't). Malachi Tribble was another key player, putting up seven points.

Community Christian's win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.1 points. As for Gramercy Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 10-14.

Coming up, Community Christian will take on Goldsboro HomeSchool at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Gramercy Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Christ Covenant at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Christ Covenant is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
