Volleyball Recap: Western Comes Up Short at Home Against Stoneman Douglas

Western unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the Stoneman Douglas Eagles on Wednesday, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wildcats have suffered against the Eagles since November 16, 2020.

The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-22.

Western's loss came despite strong showings from Sarah Perez (Ojeda) and Dani Machuca. Perez (Ojeda) had 13 digs and one assist, while Machuca had ten digs and eight assists. Perez (Ojeda) has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Stoneman Douglas has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western will host West Broward at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The contest will give the Wildcats their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Stoneman Douglas, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Northeast at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
