University has gone 9-1 against Westchester recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Comets at 2:30 p.m. University is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, University was able to grind out a solid victory over Los Angeles CES, taking the game 6-3.
Kayla Anzora made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Ditagi Smith was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sharlyn Mendoza, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
University lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. They are 3-1 when they post two or more home runs.
Meanwhile, Westchester didn't have quite enough to beat Hamilton on Monday and fell 4-2. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Laylah Ali spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on two hits and racked up 21 Ks. Those 21 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, Westchester saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arianna Green, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
University pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Westchester, they now also have a losing record of 6-7.
Westchester's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: University has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .445. It's a different story for Westchester, though, as they've only averaged .326. Will they be able to contain University's hitters?
University beat Westchester 5-0 in their previous meeting back in April. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
