Baseball Recap: Heritage Academy Triumphs

While Heritage Academy's win against Mohave Accelerated wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Heroes narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Patriots 9-7. The Heroes haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Isaias Ruiz and Paul (PJ) Soltero were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Ruiz tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Soltero struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Ruiz also tossed no walks, which is notable because Heritage Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-8-1 otherwise. At the plate, Ruiz went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Soltero went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Soltero has posted since back in March of 2024.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Eduardo Nieblas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season.

Heritage Academy's record is now 6-9-1. As for Mohave Accelerated, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Heritage Academy beat the Patriots by a score of 18-3 later that day.
