Basketball Game Preview: Raymondville Bearkats vs. Lyford Bulldogs

Raymondville is 0-8 against Lyford since November of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Raymondville Bearkats will be playing at home against the Lyford Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Raymondville sitting on six straight victories and Lyford on ten.

Raymondville will head into Monday's contest having proved themselves against Progreso: Raymondville took a 28-point loss the last time they faced off against Progreso, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Raymondville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 41-39 win over Progreso on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bearkats have posted since November 21, 2024.

Adaleigh Knight was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 18 boards. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Raymondville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Corrina Flores, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Raymondville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 9 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 9.6.

Meanwhile, Lyford strolled past Santa Rosa with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 49-34.

Lyford is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Raymondville, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-11.
