Baseball Game Preview: Athens Red Hawks vs. Bishop Foley Ventures

The Athens Red Hawks will square off against the Bishop Foley Ventures at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Athens' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Bishop Foley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Athens is headed into the game having just suffered their closest defeat since April 25th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Bloomfield Hills by a score of 4-2. Red Hawks fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Black Hawks since Tuesday.

Athens got a good showing from John Monhaut, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Monhaut has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Athens saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grayson Conrad, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Bishop Foley lost 9-3 to University of Detroit Jesuit on Monday. The loss continues a trend for the Ventures in their meetings with the Cubs: they've now lost three in a row.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 19-7. As for Bishop Foley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13-1.
