Argonaut hasn't had much luck against Calaveras recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Red Hawks at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Argonaut beats Calaveras with 11 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs didn't even let El Dorado on the board on Thursday, marking the Mustangs' second-straight 11-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Mustangs, who have now won five matches in a row.
The result came thanks to Hailey Dewald's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, AJ Schultz was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Baker, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Calaveras never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Bret Harte with a sharp 8-0 victory.
Kamryn Thornburg made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Thornburg was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Clark, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Carlee Jasper was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Calaveras' win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Argonaut, their victory bumped their record up to 11-3.
Calaveras' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Argonaut has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. It's a different story for Calaveras, though, as they've only averaged .317. Will they be able to contain Argonaut's hitters?
Argonaut suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Calaveras in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
