Softball Recap: Craigmont Chiefs vs. Covington Chargers
Craigmont had lost 16 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 0-10 to make it 17. They lost 20-0 to the Covington Chargers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Chiefs of the 20-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
As for Covington, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-10-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.
For Covington's part, Bella Crook made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Crook was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Micayla Scott, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. Brooke Waldon was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Craigmont will face off against Munford at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Covington, they will challenge Ripley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
