Basketball Recap: Saguaro Takes a Loss

If Saguaro was feeling good fresh off their 70-29 takedown of Marcos de Niza last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Saguaro Sabercats fell to the St. Mary's Knights 65-59. The Sabercats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

St. Mary's was led to victory by Sophia Bryant and Gwen Carter. Bryant posted 18 points, while Carter had 16 points. The dominant performance gave Bryant a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Sierras, who earned eight points.

Saguaro's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-11. As for St. Mary's, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saguaro will take on Mesquite at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mesquite knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Saguaro likes a good challenge. As for St. Mary's, they will host Marcos de Niza at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Mary's is facing Marcos de Niza at the right time seeing as Marcos de Niza is stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
