Softball Recap: Sugar Valley Rural Drops Season-High Score on Benton

Sugar Valley Rural extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 28-27 heartbreaker at the hands of the Benton Tigers. On the bright side, the 27- run effort marked the Phoenix's highest-scoring matchup to date.

As for Benton, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-5. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

For Benton's part, Sara Osborne was incredible, going 2-for-4 with six runs. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Zika, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sugar Valley Rural will welcome Northwest Area at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Phoenix's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rangers have averaged an impressive 13.4 runs per game this season. As for Benton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Red Raiders will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
