Football Recap: Villa Park Keeps Corona Del Mar's Under Pressure

After soaring to 42 points the game before, Villa Park was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 21-3 to the Corona del Mar Sea Kings. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 129th, while the Sea Kings are ranked 31st).

Even if they lost, Villa Park's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Maverick Declark, Parker Johns, and Sebastian Hamblet, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Corona del Mar's side was Declark, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Corona del Mar's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dorsett Stecker, who rushed for 75 yards and one TD on only ten carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards and one score. Brady Annett was another key passer, throwing for 136 yards and one touchdown.

Villa Park has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Corona del Mar, the win keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Villa Park didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 28-10 defeat against San Juan Hills on the 24th. As for Corona del Mar, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 47-8 victory against Tesoro on the 24th.
