Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Cardinal Newman couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 58-57 to the Moreau Catholic Mariners. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their 17-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Cardinal Newman still got an impressive performance from Tatum Kurpinsky, who went 9-for-11 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and seven boards. Thanks to that strong game, Kurpinsky now owns an excellent 41.4% three-point shooting accuracy. Mahdi Camara was another key player, putting up eight points and 12 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cardinal Newman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Kellen Hampton was his usual excellent self, posting 19 points along with eight boards and three blocks for Moreau Catholic. The contest was Hampton's sixth in a row with at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Jalen Arnold, who posted nine points.

Cardinal Newman's loss dropped their record down to 26-6. As for Moreau Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-5 record this season.

Cardinal Newman didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-61 defeat against Clovis East on the 4th. As for Moreau Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 84-76 win against Dougherty Valley on the 4th.
