Softball Recap: Shamokin Area Indians vs. Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Red Raiders

It was a good run, but Shamokin Area unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Red Raiders by a score of 5-4. Shamokin Area was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Our Lady of Lourdes Regional apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

EMMA KURTZ was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. KURTZ has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't pitched less than five innings every time she's pitched this season. KURTZ was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI.

KURTZ wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was AVA BONSHOCK, who went 1-for-1 with two RBI.

Even though they lost, Shamokin Area hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Our Lady of Lourdes Regional struck out seven times.

Like Shamokin Area, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional also got a great game from a two-way player: Hailee Brown. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Brown was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a run, and a double.

In other batting news, Arianna Adams was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
