One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. The action included a dizzyingly high 104-point combined score from Southern Nash and Fike.
Can't Touch This
Trinity Christian's 54 - 0 win over North Raleigh Christian Academy last week had a lot to do with the leadership of junior Cha-Von McEachern. McEachern rushed for 306 yards and five touchdowns. That performance landed McEachern among the top power-ranked players for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between Wake Forest (3rd in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Knightdale (85th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. Wake Forest picked up a decisive 'W' against Knightdale, finishing up at 55 - 14. No one had a larger role in the success than junior Maquel Haywood, who brought his A game into the contest. He ran for 165 yards and also punched in three touchdowns.
Movin on Up
It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 141-yard edge over your opponent, and Northern had just that last week. It kept its opponent Orange off the scoreboard entirely, winning the match 33 - 0. That 33-point margin marks the most Northern has won by all season. Its success was rewarded with a seven-spot boost in the power rankings, the biggest improvement of any team.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Cape Fear (11th in the power rankings) and South View (5th). Both teams are coming in hot off of wins in their previous games. Of course, Cape Fear and South View can't both win again this week, so we'll learn on Friday which team falters and which extends its success.
