Football Recap: Lopez Runs Past Hidalgo Early College

Lopez won the last time they faced Hidalgo Early College and things went their way on Friday too. The Lobos walked away with a 38-28 win over the Pirates. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lobos.

Francisco Perez was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 141 yards and one TD while picking up 7.1 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lopez was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

Hidalgo Early College's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roberto Gallegos, who rushed for 70 yards and one score.

Lopez now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Hidalgo Early College, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Coming up, after each having a week off, Lopez and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 9. The Lobos will be up against the Javelinas' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.4 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Hidalgo Early College, they will face off against Grulla at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
