Basketball Recap: Daniel Penner's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ramona over El Dorado

Ramona's tournament run continued when they took on El Dorado on Monday. The Ramona Bulldogs fell to the El Dorado Golden Hawks 63-58. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 791st, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 167th).

Ramona's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Penner, who went 5 of 7 en route to 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Penner's afternoon made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Dillon, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 21 points.

Even though they lost, Ramona smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Ramona has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for El Dorado, their victory bumped their record up to 15-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ramona will welcome Poway at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Poway's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. As for El Dorado, they will host Troy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
