Baseball Recap: Whitmire Triumphs

While Whitmire's victory against Thornwell wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Whitmire narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Thornwell 12-10. The victory continues a trend for the Wolverines in their matchups with the Saints: they've now won four in a row.

Crue Keller made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dalton Williams, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ashton Alexander, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The win got Whitmire back to even at 5-5. As for Thornwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Whitmire will venture away from home to square off against Dixie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dixie will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Whitmire surely won't give up without a fight. As for Thornwell, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Ware Shoals at 7:30 p.m. on April 1.
