Baseball Recap: Ottoville Big Green vs. Leipsic Vikings
Ottoville had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it eight. They lost 11-1 to the Leipsic Vikings. If the Big Green were looking for revenge after losing 15-2 to the Vikings when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Jayden Saxton put in work no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Saxton was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Saxton wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zach Hohlbein, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Leipsic, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.
On Leipsic's side, Nick Schroeder was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave Schroeder a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Colin Niese, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Coming up, Ottoville will head out on the road to square off against Miller City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Leipsic, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Elmwood at 5:00 p.m. The Royals' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Vikings' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
