Softball Recap: Oxnard's Run of Eight Straight Wins Now Over

Oxnard dropped their record down to 16-5-1 on Thursday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the St. Bonaventure Seraphs by a score of 8-6. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Seraphs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2019.

Destinee Herrera was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Natalie Rodarte and Layla Mukul did some serious damage despite the final result: Rodarte went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Mukul got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

As for St. Bonaventure, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games.

On St. Bonaventure's side, the team relied heavily on Hudson Ortiz, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That home run was Ortiz's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Leea Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Oxnard will take on Stockdale in a tournament on Friday. As for St. Bonaventure, they have already played their next contest, a 13-2 loss against Lompoc on the 24th.
