Greensburg hasn't had much luck against East Central recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pirates will challenge the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. Greensburg will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
While Greensburg's victory against South Dearborn wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Knights on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by just one run.

Ethan Smith made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cy Miller, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
Meanwhile, East Central gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Richmond by a score of 10-7. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Like Greensburg, East Central also got a great game from a two-way player: Chase Marsh. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Marsh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, East Central got a big performance out of Ben Bond, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that Bond has brought in this season. Brent Merk was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
East Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
East Central is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Greensburg, their record is now 12-2.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Greensburg has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like East Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greensburg couldn't quite get it done against East Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
