Basketball Recap: West Field Comes Up Short

West Field played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 76-45 loss at the hands of the Green Canyon Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Wolves are ranked 12th).

When it comes to explaining why West Field lost, don't look at Jaxon Slaugh. Despite the final result, he went 7 for 10 on his way to 20 points. Slaugh has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Gavin Ortegon, who posted five points.

Green Canyon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jude Haigh, who went 5 of 11 en route to 18 points and seven boards. Grayden Wheeler also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

West Field's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Green Canyon, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

West Field didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 54-53 loss against Bear River on the 17th. Green Canyon has also already played their next contest, a 70-26 win against Logan on the 17th.
