Basketball Recap: Winfield Comes Up Short

Winfield lost against Spring Valley back in January of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Winfield Generals took a blow against the Spring Valley Timberwolves, falling 90-55. While losing is never fun, the Generals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Timberwolves are ranked fourth).

Spring Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Clay Robertson out in front who went 10-for-13 to rack up 36 points and seven boards. Robertson is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Caldwell, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Spring Valley, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 17-1.

Looking ahead, Winfield will head out to challenge Hurricane at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spring Valley, they will face off against George Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Spring Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games.
