Softball Game Preview: Glendale Cardinals vs. Cortez Colts

Glendale is 8-1 against Cortez since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Colts at 4:00 p.m. Glendale has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

While Glendale's victory against Copper Canyon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals had just enough and edged out the Aztecs 15-14 on Thursday. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Aztecs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Reeanah Sesma was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (five). Another player making a difference was Tzintzuni Hernandez Garcia, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs.

Meanwhile, Cortez came up short against Yuma on Friday, falling 15-5.

Cortez's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Glendale, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.

Glendale skirted past Cortez 10-9 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
