Softball Recap: Shelton Finds Playoff Glory Versus Kennedy

With a playoff win on the line, Shelton rose to the challenge on Monday. They put the hurt on the Kennedy Eagles with a sharp 16-0 victory. The Gaels might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 games by nine runs or more this season.

Sammi Denihan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Denihan was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tori Silva was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Sadie Balocca was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Shelton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Shelton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

Looking ahead, Shelton will square off against New Canaan at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Gaels 2.6, the Rams 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Kennedy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
