Basketball Game Preview: Fort Myers Green Wave vs. Mariner Tritons

Fort Myers has gone 6-1 against Mariner recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Fort Myers Green Wave will head out to square off against the Mariner Tritons at 6:30 p.m. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Fort Myers and four for Mariner.

Fort Myers came up into this matchup off a tough 35-point loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Lehigh by a score of 47-44 on Saturday.

Despite the defeat, Fort Myers got top-tier performance from Skye Douglas, who went 8 for 13 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight steals and six boards. Douglas is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Monica Mercado, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 19 points.

Even though they lost, Fort Myers was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Mariner played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Estero 57-11. The Tritons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-4.

Fort Myers' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-7. As for Mariner, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Fort Myers came out on top in a nail-biter against Mariner in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, sneaking past 34-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fort Myers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
