Basketball Recap: Chino Valley Comes Up Short

Chino Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks 99-29. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 318th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 49th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Landon Smith, who posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Hawks, who put up eight points.

Sir Stokes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Yuma Catholic, going 9-for-11 en route to 22 points and six steals. Stokes is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ellijah Braveheart, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Chino Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Yuma Catholic, the victory (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 22-2.

Chino Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Yuma Catholic, they have already played their next matchup, a 66-46 win against Page on the 12th.
