Softball Recap: Heritage Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Heritage's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Knightdale Knights. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Gianna Deverna and Lydia Bollinger were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Deverna tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bollinger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Deverna went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Bollinger earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Zoe Wisenbaker and Janiah Vargas did most of the damage at the plate: Wisenbaker went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Vargas went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave Wisenbaker a new career-high. Zoelle Davidson was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.

Heritage was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .609. They are 10-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Heritage has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Knightdale, they are on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Knightdale, they will welcome Smithfield-Selma at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
