Softball Game Preview: Clyde Fliers vs. Shelby Whippets

The Clyde Fliers will face off against the Shelby Whippets at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. Clyde's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Shelby's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Clyde gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over Columbian. The Fliers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Shelby beat Highland 9-4 on Thursday.

Alyssa Booker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Natalie Kennard was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylee Sturts, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple and one run.

Shelby has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Clyde, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.
