Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Charter Griffins vs. Estero Wildcats

Gateway Charter is 0-3 against Estero since February of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. Gateway Charter will venture away from home to take on Estero at 7:00 p.m. Neither Gateway Charter nor Estero posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Gateway Charter's offense. They fell just short of Master's Academy by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. The Griffins' loss continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Brandon Lackwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Estero, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They skirted past Ida Baker 2-0. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won five in a row.

The result came thanks to Will Swan's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Evan Goeller was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

Estero's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.

Gateway Charter came up short against Estero in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can Gateway Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
