Basketball Recap: Braydon Prospero Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hernando Christian Academy

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Central's strategy against Hernando Christian Academy on Monday. The Central Bears walked away with a 72-62 victory over the Hernando Christian Academy Lions. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 59-23 back in December of 2024.

Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Braydon Prospero out in front who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 assists. The dominant performance gave Prospero a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Rommy Abreau, who posted nine points and six steals.

Prospero wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hernando Christian Academy only posted four assists.

Caydon Williams and Cedric Jackson, Jr. certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Williams went 7 of 10 on his way to 18 points and four steals, while Jackson, Jr. put up 24 points. Jackson, Jr. continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Jaden Montzka was another key player, putting up 13 points and three steals.

Central has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Hernando Christian Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Central has already played their next contest, a 49-37 victory against Weeki Wachee on the 14th. As for Hernando Christian Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-22 loss against Clearwater Central Catholic on the 16th.
