Basketball Recap: Topsail Takes a Loss

Topsail was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 55-42 to the Croatan Cougars. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 59-54.

Croatan was led to victory by Gavin Zheng and Matthew Crittenden. Zheng shot 50% from the field en route to 15 points and five assists, while Crittenden dropped a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Those 15 points gave Zheng a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Daniel Aviles, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Topsail's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Croatan, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Topsail will face off against Pender at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Croatan, they will take on East Duplin at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
