Baseball Game Preview: Lyons Lions vs. The Academy Wildcats

The Lyons Lions will venture away from home to square off against The Academy Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Lyons has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Lyons' pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They skirted past Front Range Christian 2-0. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Jake LaCrosse was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lyons is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-3 otherwise. LaCrosse was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

LaCrosse wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Henry Lynch, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Colorado Academy hit The Academy with a four-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 12-2 to the Mustangs. The Wildcats' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

The Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Lyons, their record is now 3-4.

Lyons suffered a grim 17-9 defeat to The Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
